Germination Instructions
For over 45 years we have been growing Acers from seed on our nursery. The advice below is based on experience gained over those years.
These seeds have been picked and dried in September 2025.
We suggest sowing the seeds as soon as you receive them.
Soak the seeds for 24 hours in water.
Sow on a moist, well-drained seed compost then cover with 10-15mm of the seed compost.
Then place in a cool well ventilated position.
Keep an eye on them so the compost remains moist and at no point is allowed to dry out.
In the spring protect from late frosts.
They can be slow to germinate, taking up to 2 years, however we have found the vast majority germinate in the first spring.
